One of the things I loved about living at the Mission Home in Bangkok was to sit around the dining table and hear the seasoned missionaries share the stories of their early days in Thailand. On one particular day, with spoons in our right hands, and forks in the left, we took in the spicy flavors of noodles and shrimp, and let our minds float back to the past.
A woman with graying hair was sharing about her early time in central Thailand. She had joined with a couple of other women who would weekly walk through the rural rice fields to a small hut owned by a family that was open to hear about God.
As they prayerfully made their weekly trek through the narrow, muddy path, surrounded by green as far as the eye could see, they were unaware that they were being watched. They were being watched by some who did not want them there. And plans were being made to put an end to their presence.
Oblivious to the pending danger, the women faithfully continued their weekly, hot and muddy trek to share the good news that God loves people and wants them to know Him.
It wasn’t until much later that they learned that these men had been watching them and plotting their demise. But what had stopped them? It was reported to them that on the day of the planned attack, when the missionaries left the hut and were crossing the rice fields, those planning to attack saw that there were large men accompanying them.
The attackers knew that the missionaries were being protected, and that they could not over-power them.
The missionaries were unaware of anyone walking with them that day, yet the watchful eyes of the enemy had seen their “protectors”. God, who is always watching, had sent His angels to the rice fields of Thailand that day, to protect His children.
What About You?
Have you ever sensed that God has taken care of you in a supernatural way? Often, we are unaware of His workings on our behalf, but He is always watching. (See Proverbs 15:3 and 1 Peter 3:12) Remember: If we belong to Him, we are always in His care.
